Halfing

Elves have long drawn the jealous looks of other races. Their generous lifespans, magical attraction, and built-in grace each add to the strong feeling of pleasure and wonder or bitter jealousy of their neighbors. Of all their qualities, however, none so entrance their human associates as their beauty. Since the two races first encountered each other, humans have held up elves as models of physical perfection, seeing in these fair folk made perfect versions of themselves. For their part, many elves find humans attractive even though there is the existence of their comparatively shockingly cruel ways, and are drawn to the passion and forcefulness with which members of the younger race play out their brief lives.

Sometimes this back and forth between people sudden, strong love leads to romantic relationships. Though usually short-lived, even by human standards, such meetings trysts may lead to the birth of Halfing, a race moved downward from two cultures yet inheritor of neither. Halfing can breed with one another, but even these "pureblood" Halfing tend to be viewed as bastards by humans and elves alike. Caught between a pre-planned future and derision, Halfing often view themselves as the middle children of the world.

Their lack of a unified homeland and culture forces Halfing to remain versatile able to adapt to nearly any environment. While often believe attractive to both races for the same reasons as their parents, Halfing rarely fit in with humans, or elves, as both races see too much corroboration of the other in them. This lack of acceptance weighs heavily on many Halfing, yet others are helped by their one of a kind status, seeing in their lack of a formalized culture the best freedom. As a result, Halfing are incredibly adaptable, capable of changing to fit new environment, their mind-sets, and talents to whatever communities they find themselves in. Even Halfing welcomed by one side of their history often find themselves caught between cultures, as they are encouraged, convinced, or even forced into taking on diplomatic responsibilities between human and elven kind. Many Halfing rise to the occasion of such service, seeing it as a chance to prove their worth to both races. Others, however, come to resent the pressures and presumptions foisted upon them by both races and turn any opportunity to broker power, make peace, or advance trade between humans and elves into an exercise in personal profit.

Description: Halfing stand taller than humans parents but shorter than elves parents. They inherit the lean build and attractive features of their elven family, but their human side usually dictates their skin color. While Halfing keep the pointed ears of elves, theirs are more rounded and less obvious. Their eyes tend to be human-like in shape, but feature a fancy range of colors from golden yellow or violet to emerald green and deep blue. This pattern changes for Halfing of drow descent however. Such elves are almost always marked with the white or silver hair of the drow parent, and more often than not have dark gray skin that takes on a purplish or bluish tinge in the right light, while their eye color usually favors that of the human parent.
